Giovanna Ferreira - WEEK 3 at S.C.C.
Third week of interning at Smithsonian Institution Building has been an adventure. Since we had meetings every single day at every single hour plus doing translations and working on the website for about two weeks, my supervisor decided to give me a little break and sent me to different Smithsonian museums (and the zoo).

One of my favorites was the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, which is the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum’s annex at Washington Dulles International Airport, VA. The location is, in my opinion, the coolest, because while you are going around exhibitions you can also observe real planes flying over the museum.
Lockheed SR-71A “Blackbird” was by far my favorite of the whole center. It was a spy plane operated by the United States Air Force and it set a speed record by flying from Los Angeles to Washington D.C. in 1 hour and 4 minutes!

Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center displays many aviation and space artifacts such as the Enola Gay, which dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan; the orbital spacecraft Space Shuttle Discovery; Redstone rocket, the first large American ballistic missile; the Gossamer Albatross, which was the first man-powered aircraft to fly across the English Channel; into many other items, especially the ones that are too large for the N.A.S.M’s building on the National Mall, Washington D.C.

Another place I visited during last week was the National Zoological Park commonly known as National Zoo.
It has two campuses. One of them is an urban park located in the D.C. area (the one I went to) and the other one is the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute where we spent the night with the bonfire and all that.
While going through the Zoo, I could only think about Washington Week and how they taught us all that cool stuff about animals. It’s great knowing that this institution houses 30 to 40 endangered species at any given time.
In summary, this week was totally different from the others. I feel that I finally gave my badge a better use haha!
Excited to see how this fourth and last week goes guys.
Les deseo todo lo mejor para esta última semana <3
