Children's Discovery Museum of San Jose - Week 3

Another week has passed by! Time is going by extremely fast, it feels like.

My third week at the Museum was very busy, as there was a dedication event for the opening of the newly renovated LeRoy Neiman Art Studio.

At the begging of the week, I had an info interview with the museum's Communications Specialist. She basically manages all the museum's social media platforms and works closely with the marketing department, as well as the Public Relation department. I learned new information about marketing, that I previously was not aware of. I also got to find out answers to questions I have been wondering about since I started to get into Marketing and the business world such as "why does the content varies throughout the platforms?" "why is it not the same?" This interview was very useful to me and I am sure it will come in handy as I keep developing my own business model.

Later in the week, I kept on helping with the preparation for the dedication event. I helped covering three diagramas with gesso, so they could be painted over. I got to try out my artistic skills by going through an art lesson developed by my internship supervisor, which was in fact used for the dedication event.

The day of the dedication event, I helped set up the space once it was ready for us to come in. While I was helping, I noticed that everyone was being so helpful and willing to do anything for the event to succeed. This is something I had noticed since I started my internship, but the teamwork culture this museum has, was very emphasized in this event specifically. I thought it was amazing seeing everyone working together to reach a common goal, and it made me think of ways I could create a similar culture wherever I go.

To finalize the week,  I got the chance to be a facilitator at the new Art Studio on it first day open to the public. This was a totally new experience for me, as I had never been at art space for children 0-4. I really enjoyed this experience; I totally got into it and was able to facilitate the activities with ease, even when it was a little chaotic in terms of how many people were in the space at the same time.

It was a relatively repetitive week overall, excluding the dedication event and the facilitation at the Art Studio, but I definitely got the chance to see all the behind the scenes in order to run an event. I also enjoyed see the final result of everyone coming together on this project.
