The Witte Museum - Week One

Hola!

I hope all of you are doing well.

This week, I started my internship experience at the Witte Museum,
in San Antonio. The museum is dedicated to inspire people to shape
the future of Texas through relevant and transformative experiences
in nature, science and culture.

The log cabin, which is one of the oldest spaces in the museum!

My job at the museum is to update and reform two of the activities
in the galleries. The first is the log cabin. It definitely shows
some wear, but it gleams with potential. The other space is the jacal.
Both of these are buildings that have had major, yet unnoticed
contributions to Texan culture and heritage.

A drawing of the jacal, where I will be activating the space.

While meeting a seemingly infinite amount of people throughout my
first week, I began to see the importance of collaboration, especially
in museum spaces. Whether it be in the financial or curatorial
departments, everyone works in tandem with one another to create a
space where a story can be told.

I can see the connections that were made in Washington Week translate
rather seamlessly over to my internship experience. It has only been
the first week, but I feel like much growth and reflection will come
of this experience.

Abrazos,
Criztian
