Giovanna Ferreira - WEEK 4 at S.C.C.
Fourth and last week of internship, gave me the feeling that time went by so fast while working these weeks.
My last week at the Smithsonian Conservation Commons Office was as any other previous week, busy working. Running from meeting to meeting, planning, translating, editing and going back home with a bunch of people falling asleep next to me on the Metro, I can say, it is the best summary of these last days.
If we start talking about my biggest take on from this internship, I can say that I take with me an excellent experience and an incredible gain of knowledge about conservation landscape and the complexity of developing global conservation strategies. This was a great professional enrichment opportunity and nothing can be compared to work in a big institution such as the Smithsonian. I got to meet incredible people who work hard every day; planning, writing proposals and making sure things are getting done to make this summit possible in April of 2020. A special shout-out to my wonderful supervisor Erin, who even though she had a ton of things to do each day, was there talking to me, explaining the project over and over, listening, and taking me everywhere with her, always with a big smile and a cookie on her hand.
But wait, this is not over yet. I am so happy to announce that I got the amazing offer to extend my internship at the Conservation Commons Office! Of course, I accepted this incredible opportunity to continue being part of this amazing project; Earth Optimism Summit 2020.
I always felt like I wanted to be part of making a change in the environment and, even though I am not the one actually making a change, I will still be part of this project that looks forward to creating optimism around the world to start making a progress with small things that all of us are able to do to preserve the world hearing from multiple stories of success.
The extension of this internship will help me learn about conservation efforts taking place across Smithsonian science units and develop skills in translating conservation content into Spanish for different social media platforms.
By the way, you can go take a look at the website by clicking here and read some blogs we have been posting, including my latest translation to Spanish about what is the Conservation Commons.
I just look back to a couple of months ago and I would have never imagined myself doing these awesome things. I am so glad I applied to the Young Ambassadors Program because none of these amazing changes in my life would have been possible without this experience. My heart is filled with love to spread around our community and to help others to take advantage of opportunities like this one.
I feel so fortunate to be part of this familia and I cannot wait to hear from all your big experiences!
Los quiero con todo el corazón yappers <3 (ya quiero llorar).
